Decoding the Schedule of Classes
IU South Bend courses for Fall 2020 will consist of five formats; Online all (OA), in Person (P), Distance online synchronous (DO), Hybrid distance (HD), and Hybrid traditional (HY)
Online All courses – courses that are asynchronous online. Class modules and materials are posted, usually in Canvas, and the student works through the material at their own pace. No class meetings, virtual or in person are required. You will need to meet assignment and exam deadlines. This type of class incurs a course fee of $50 per credit hour.
Distance Online Synchronous or Live Video – courses that are all online but you must log on at certain days and times. Instructor will use an online platform such as Zoom to conduct the class. This is like an in person class, only the entire class time will be virtual. You will need to meet assignment and exam deadlines.
Hybrid Distance – courses that combine some required log in times with times when students will do work on their own. Videoconferencing will take place, usually through Zoom. Other times, students will work on modules and assignments at their own pace. You will need to meet assignment and exam deadlines.
Hybrid Traditional – courses that combine asynchronous online learning with some in person class meetings or synchronous online learning where you will have to log on at certain days and times. In person class meetings will be required. You will need to meet assignment and exam deadlines.
In Person (Face to Face) – courses that meet regularly on campus with some online work to be assigned by the instructor.
