Orientation provides a comprehensive introduction to IU South Bend and the many resources available to help you succeed, from the moment you arrive on campus. During Orientation, you will have the opportunity to connect with faculty, staff, student leaders, and fellow incoming students as we help you in navigating the campus. Your new IU South Bend community want to support you with ways to lay the foundation for a successful academic experience at IU South Bend.
Below are the steps for new students prior to the start of the semester on January 13.
- Take required placement exams in English and/or math
Exams are waived based on receiving credit from AP, IB, ACP, Dual Enrollment College Credit, or transfer credit from another university. To check which exams may be required, log on to One.IU and type “To Do List” in the search bar. If required, the exam will appear on the To Do list. If not required, the exam does not appear at all. If you have questions, contact Admissions at firstname.lastname@example.org or (574) 520-4839. Please make every effort to have any required placement exams completed prior to meeting with an advisor to register for classes. Both the English and math exams can be completed online by clicking on the link below.
Note: There is also a placement exam for chemistry that is highly recommended for many science and health sciences majors. Click on the link below to determine if you should take this exam.
- Register for Classes
Students are encouraged to make an appointment with an advisor to register for classes prior to attending Orientation. However, if it is more convenient, you can register for classes during orientation. Click on the link below for contact information to schedule an appointment with an academic advisor.
- Attend Orientation on December 13 or January 8
Check-in and a full breakfast buffet begins at 8:30a in the University Grill, located in the Administration Building. The program lasts from 9:00a – 12:00p (dismissal will be later for those registering for classes that day). Parents and guests are welcome.
Please bring an official form of ID to orientation, as you will need this to obtain your Crimson Card.
